Capoeira Workshop on Fanø

Get the Brazilian rhythm and dance into your body. Luiz Carlos (Fumaca) is coming to Fanø in August 2021 to do a workshop in CAPOEIRA. It is a Brazilian movement and martial art that was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2014. Its roots lie in the Portuguese colonial era, when Capoeira was practiced as a martial technique disguised as a dance.

Today, in addition to self-defense, Capoeira is mainly used to consciously use the body. Musical instruments such as the berimbau are played in harmony with the acrobatic exercises. The rhythm of the music and the poetic lyrics influence the respective body language of the capoeirists. In addition to intercultural skills, the regular training especially promotes coordination, musculature, endurance and sense of rhythm.

Capoeira is practiced barefoot and in loose sports clothes. Regardless of age, gender, religion or origin, everyone is welcome to participate in the training, with or without previous experience.

LUIZ CARLOS (FUMAÇA) comes from São Paulo and has been teaching capoeira for 15 years. In addition to his regular capoeira lessons, he has been active in social projects in Brazilian favelas, has led self-defense courses and is involved in integration projects. Since 2015, he has offered courses for adults, young people and children in Germany.
